I'm OK, you're OK
Everybody's right! It is a turkey, and there is some incredibly bad acting, and it is also enjoyable if you approach it in that cheesy movie frame of mind. Here are my favorite bits:
* "I know him of old". I'm not sure when that dialogue would have sounded natural. Maybe never?
* The natives of Altura speak Spanish by speaking English in really BAD Spanish accents.
My path to discovering this wonder of cinematic art was searching for info on Conchita Montenegro, of whom I had bought an original promotional still printed, apparently, in Fascist Spain. Yes, it seems even the Fascists had a movie industry - pacify the masses with entertainment, and all that.
I was a bit disappointed in Conchita - it's hard to believe from her performance here that she is credited with "revolutionizing" Spanish classical dance. Her dancing is just sort of OK, and I can't get past that frozen Eleanor Powell like smile. Who the heck told these women that they had to smile ALL the time while they were dancing? Hardly the sultry allure I was expecting. It does show a little in her overt propositioning of the juvenile lead though - from the way he doesn't even seem remotely tempted to cheat on his vapid girlfriend I think we can presume he is gay.
Not bad. No rating.

I started watching this to see Miss Lois Wilson. Since she died at 10:04 I was released from any obligation to finish this turkey.

What the hey?
Did I see the same movie that other people saw? How could a movie called Laughing at Life and is supposedly a comedy be about some attempted coup in a fictional South American country be so lame? I mean, this premise worked in the Marx Bros Animal Crackers but totally fails. The thing is not funny, its awkwardly paced, confusingly plotted and badly edited. Victor Mclaglen is a darn fine actor, but unfortunately this material doesnt do him justice at all.

The scenes change frequently, so this movie works for those souls with short attention spans. One enjoys the action, and the subtle humour that intervenes from time to time. The acting is adequate.

No complaints, it's okay.
People that seem to connect with this movie really get a lot out of it.
So click and watch maybe you will connect.

Just couldn't enjoy it
I just can't agree with the others. The story and the acting were just mediocre at best. It was almost painful to watch.

Life Shots orrrr...
I loved this show also. This in a way has happened to me. I just wasn't as lucky as the guy in this movie.
Well worth watchin'. Most can relate to this show in one way or another. Kinda hits one's heart strings. It hit the hell outta mine.
Well worth the download folks.

Victor McLaglen's Star Quality
What a charismatic performance from Victor McLaglen! Imagine an actor with the physique of John Wayne, and the charm of Cary Grant -- that's McLaglen. In 1935, two years after making "Laugh at Life", he won the Best Actor Oscar for "The Informer", but even in this corny adventure yarn, you can see his star quality.

Victor McLagen is the star and gives a lively performance. This is not a film for the critic. Please no nit-picking. Just sit back ,enjoy the good company, laugh and be in a happy mood at the end..Not recommended for sophisticated people ,.
